How I got started

My first photoshoot was for one of my best friends since childhood. She and her husband were expecting their first baby, and I found out that she wasn't planning to get maternity photos done. She told me that she didn't feel comfortable in her changing body and wasn't sure she wanted to invest in photos when she didn't feel beautiful. Though I only had an iPhone camera at the time, I convinced her to let me document her journey into motherhood by taking some photos at the beach. A few days later, with an Amazon flower crown and dress in tow, we embarked on my first attempt at a photo shoot along Lake Michigan.

By the end of that shoot- after seeing the photos- my friend was amazed at how beautiful she felt and how precious the photos were of her growing family. I saw her confidence flourish, and I knew then that I wanted to be a part of capturing important moments for other individuals and families. That winter, my husband gifted me my first professional camera, and I registered for photography courses at a local college.

By the following year, I began training as an associate photographer for Lauren Alyssa Photography Studios in Chicago. In 2026, I officially started K-U Captures in the Northwest suburbs, while still doing seasonal work with Lauren. I adore photography and all of the beautiful families I have met on this journey so far, and I cannot wait to continue growing in my art.
